Desert Island, a film by Steve Thielemans

Seventeen year old Mamebou lives in the last house in a dead-end street in Brussels. When he was twelve, he first collided with law and justice. Ever since, Mamebou is struggling to give his life meaning. But his drug addiction, poverty, and a negative self-image prevent him from getting his life back on track. His family and society as a whole seem incapable to provide a solution to his standstill. Mamebou’s perception of reality becomes increasingly distorted as he is seeking a way to escape his cul-de-sac. L’île déserte is an uncompromising but intimate dark portrait of a youngster trying to cope with his destiny.
